Got to witness to Larry on Tuesday. Just to set this up, we evacuated from League City, TX on Sept. 11, and went to mom and dad's in Saratoga, TX. We were fleeing the 20' storm surge from hurricane Ike, and finding a familiar place to hide from the 120 mph winds. The hurricane hit Sat. morning, and was devastating to this area. As far as this forum is concerned, evacuating to the woods turned into a desert for sharing the Gospel. First Baptist Church Saratoga gathered together to endure the hurricane in the church building, and after the winds, we labored to even function.
That takes me to Tuesday, the following week. The day before we return home, we're up at the church building grilling meat that we don't want to spoil. That morning, I'd expressed my disappointment with God, and how much I desired to get to share the Gospel w/ someone.
As we were sitting outside by the grill, Larry drove up, and asked dad if he could borrow a ladder to tarp his dads house. They dribbled through the logistics of stuff. Before he walked away, I stood and introduced myself, and we chatted a little.
In the course of talking, he made a statement like, "I'm just glad God gave us another chance." Of course, this Theological statement begged the question, "Another chance at what?"
At that point, he shared about his "past" life, and openly discussed some bad decisions made that involved alcohol and suicidally speeding down a road lined w/ trees. His wheel turned, and he crashed through several small trees, and barely missed the one big tree. I asked, "What would've happened had you hit the big tree?"
I took Larry through the Law, and showed him his need for the Savior. Like I said before, it had been 5 days since I was able to share the limitless grace of Christ to a rebellious sinner, and as I shared what Christ had done for him, I couldn't hold back tears....Larry had to listen to why Christ was slain! Specifically for his sin! A hardened country boy had to watch a grown man weep as I explained my Savior's love for him!
I pleaded with him to repent, and to "put on" Christ, and transitioned back to his ladder dilemma.
God, please save Larry, for Your name's sake! Bring his whole family to you.....his wife, daughter, brother, the whole family so they could give you the honor You deserve!
