Every second Saturday a group of ladies meet at Clear Creek Community Church to prepare brown bag lunches to give out to the homeless in Galveston, TX. They commonly only have a handful of people give their time to help, and even fewer to distribute them. They fearlessly go into rough parts of town, and pass out sandwiches in the name of Jesus! One of the ladies that has been attending our church invited me to go so that I could witness to people, and so they could watch and see how I engaged. Cool!
The setting was a little strange because the didn't stay very long at any of the stops. Everyone jumps out of there cars, and distributes the gifts, gives hugs, then moves on. I was following them, so I saw right away why it was so difficult to engage. In Jan. 07, I got to go to Vegas with the Great News Network and learn how to open-air preach (what an experience!). That experience really paid off for situations like this. On two different stops I stood up, got everyone's attention, and proclaimed the glorious Gospel whomever would listen. Rest assured that I did have an audience with those that received the gifts. On the second stop, which was between some abandon buildings and a run down apt. complex, people gathered to get sandwiches. I asked some of the big guys (that looked like they ran the place, or at least could run us off), if they new the Lord. One said the did. I witnessed to them for a while, explaining how Christ had paid for the laws that they had just admitted to breaking. I asked them if it was Good News, and they said that it was! I asked if everyone here on this block had repented, and believed on Christ, and they kinda snickered as they looked up and down the street. So I asked, "Wouldn't it be good if they new that Good News? I don't want them to go to Hell. Will you get my back if I stand up and proclaim this? " The agreed, and I told them that they could be my choir. :) I stood up on the 3 ft. curb of the street, an called attention, they proclaimed what I know to be true, and seed was scattered everywhere to the Glory of God!
